Stellar activity in M dwarfs plays a crucial role in shaping the environments of orbiting exoplanets. Energetic magnetic events, particularly flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), can drive atmospheric escape and affect planetary habitability. Despite their potential impact, stellar CMEs remain among the most elusive phenomena in time-domain astronomy.
\nWe present a cross-match of TESS SPOC light curves with multi-epoch SDSS-V (BOSS) spectroscopic observations, which we use to search for spectroscopic signatures of CMEs accompanying white-light flares in M dwarfs. For stars with simultaneous TESS and SDSS-V observations, and clear flaring activity, we model Hα and Hβ line profiles to quantify equivalent width enhancements and search for wing asymmetries as CME-candidate proxies.
\nNeither target yields a detection of bulk blue-shifted emission above the SDSS-V velocity resolution threshold, placing upper limits on CME Hα and Hβ excess during confirmed flare epochs. These results are consistent with the broader CME deficit reported in the literature and highlight both the promise and current limitations of large spectroscopic surveys for CME science. The joint photometric/ spectroscopic pipeline developed here is immediately scalable to the full SDSS-V M dwarf sample, laying the groundwork for statistical CME studies in the era of SDSS-V, TESS, and future time-domain missions.
