TABLE 1. Description of measurements (in mm) and counts. Definitions largely follow Roper and Voss (1983). Indices (abbreviations shown in square brackets below) are calculated by expressing each measure as a percentage of mantle length.

AL	Arm Length. Arm measured from first basal (proximal-most) sucker to distal tip of arm.
AL1	Length of Arm 1. Same abbreviation for arms 2, 3 and 4. [AL1I—AL 4I]
Dorsal arm	Alternate term for arm 1.
Dorso-lateral arm	Alternate term for arm 2.
AL4l	Arm Length left hectocotylus in males. [AL4lI]
AL4r	Arm Length right hectocotylus. Length of right hectocotylised arm in males. [AL4rI]
ASC	Arm Sucker Count. Total number of suckers on each designated arm (e.g. ASC 2).
ASC 4l	Arm Sucker Count hectocotylus. Number of suckers on proximal end of hectocotylised left ventral arm.
ASC 4r	Arm Sucker Count hectocotylus. Number of suckers on proximal end of hectocotylised right ventral arm.
AS	Arm Sucker diameter. Diameter of largest normal sucker on each designated (i.e. 1, 2 etc.) arm. [ASIn].
ClL	Club Length. Length of tentacular club measured from proximal-most basal suckers to distal tip of club. [ClLI]
ClRC	Club Row Count. Number of suckers in transverse rows on tentacular club.
ClS	Club Sucker diameter. Diameter of largest sucker on tentacular club. [ClSI]
EgD	Egg Diameter. Diameter of largest egg present in the ovary or oviduct. [EgDI]
ED	Eye Diameter. Diameter of eye. [EDI]
FIa	Fin Insertion anterior. Anterior origin of fin measured from mantle margin to anterior-most junction of fin and mantle. [FIaI]
FL	Fin Length. Maximum length of single fin. [FLI]
FW	Fin Width. Greatest width of single fin. [FWI]
FFu	Free Funnel length. Length of the funnel from the anterior funnel opening to the point of its dorsal attachment to the head. [FFuI]
FuL	Funnel Length. Length of the funnel from the anterior funnel opening to the posterior margin measured along the ventral midline. [FuLI]
GiLC	Gill Lamellae Count. Number of lamellae on one side of each demibranch (excluding the terminal lamella).
GilL	Gill Length. Length of the gill measured from terminal lamella to origin of gill. [GilLI]
HL	Head Length. Dorsal length of head measured from point of fusion of dorsal arms to posterior end of head. [HLI]
HW	Head Width. Greatest width of head at level of eyes. [HWI]
ML	Mantle Length. Dorsal mantle length. Measured from anterior-most point of mantle to posterior apex of mantle.
MW	Mantle Width. Greatest width of mantle. [MWI]
VML	Ventral Mantle Length. Length of ventral mantle measured along ventral midline. [VMLI]
