The GOH Speech Hearing Screening Process is a new, indirect solution for quick and friendly assessment of speech hearing in young children ages 4 and up. It is mainly used by speech therapists and  speech-language pathologists.  The procedure was developed in 1984-85 in the Phonetics Laboratory of the Institute of Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1988 it received Hungarian patent protection (Registration number: 193211). The principle of the procedure is completely different from the traditional sinusoidal method, it uses synthetic speech items made by a formant synthesiser. The spectral content of the synthesized syllables are carefully planned so they have special acoustic structure with less redundant frequency elements. During the measurement the child listens to synthesised syllables through headphones and has to say back what she/he heard. If the hearing mechanism of the child is OK, she/he tells back that syllable that was transmitted through the headset. If she/he tells another syllable back, there may have been a problem in the hearing mechanism. The measurement results (the spoken answers) are marked by hand on the GOH evaluation sheet by the assistant. The right and left ear are examined separately. One complete measurement takes 3-4 minutes. This is a fun activity for children. 
The adaptation of the G-O-H method for the Italian language was supported by the European Union's HORIZON Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No 101120657, project ENFIELD (European Lighthouse to Manifest Trustworthy and Green AI).

G-O-H TEST DELL'UDITO PER BAMBINI
Lo screening uditivo è molto importante già nella prima infanzia. Con il programma per computer goh-test-it.exe è possibile controllare facilmente l'udito dei bambini già a partire dai 4 anni. Utilizzato nelle scuole materne, nelle scuole, nei centri di logopedia, ecc.
Per eseguire l'esame dell'udito sono necessari un computer portatile con sistema operativo windows (versione 7 o superiore) e un paio di cuffie. Questi strumenti devono essere forniti dall'utente. Il test è semplice e veloce. Un esame dura 3-4 minuti. Durante il test, il bambino ascolta le sillabe una dopo l'altra tramite le cuffie. Il suo compito è quello di ripetere ad alta voce la sillaba che ha sentito. Tra una sillaba e l'altra c'è una pausa di 6 secondi. 
Le sillabe sono state realizzate con un metodo speciale e consistono in sequenze vocali sintetizzate al computer. Le sillabe non possono essere sostituite dal parlato umano!
L'utilizzo del programma GOH-TEST_IT.exe e lo svolgimento del test sono facili e veloci da imparare e non richiedono alcuna preparazione specifica. Per i bambini è un'attività ludica.

ENFIELD is a European Centre of Excellence dedicated to advancing Adaptive, Green, Human-Centric, and Trustworthy AI. The project aims to strengthen AI research and development across key sectors, including healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and space.
