الإطار القانوني المنظم لعمل المرأة في سورية

Description

The legal framework regulating women’s employment in Syria forms part of the broader legislative system aimed at achieving equality and protecting rights in the labor market. The Syrian Constitution guarantees the principle of equality among citizens without discrimination on the basis of gender, and affirms women’s right to work and participate in economic life. The Syrian Labor Law also regulates the employment of women, emphasizing the principles of equal opportunity and equal pay for equal work.

The law includes specific provisions to protect working women, such as prohibiting their employment in hazardous or health-damaging jobs, regulating working hours in a manner appropriate to their circumstances, and granting paid maternity leave, along with protection against arbitrary dismissal due to pregnancy or childbirth. It also stipulates the provision of a suitable work environment that takes into account their particular needs.

In addition, the Syrian Social Security Law contributes to ensuring social protection for working women by guaranteeing compensation in cases of illness, maternity, and work-related injuries. The legislator has also adopted certain positive measures to enhance women’s participation, such as encouraging their employment across various sectors and prohibiting discrimination in hiring.

At the international level, Syria has acceded to several conventions supporting women’s labor rights, foremost among them the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), which strengthens its commitments to combating discrimination and achieving equality.

However, practical implementation continues to face challenges related to economic and social conditions, which affect the level of women’s participation in the labor market. Therefore, the development of legislation and the strengthening of its enforcement remain necessary to ensure effective protection of working women’s rights in Syria.
