Description
The question this study addressed. This study compared the diagnostic performance of cytospin and liquid-based cytology (LBC) in 686 specimens from various body sites, assessing specimen adequacy, cellular yield, background clarity, and preservation of cytomorphological features.
What this study adds to our knowledge. LBC significantly outperformed cytospin across all outcome measures: specimen adequacy (87.2% vs 66.8%), high cellular yield (86.3% vs 62.7%), clear background (89.6% vs 55.7%), well-preserved morphology (86.9% vs 65.0%), and overall diagnostic clarity (85.9% vs 59.2%). All differences were highly significant (p < 0.001). Papanicolaou stain provided the best diagnostic clarity.
