Bat Literature Project (BatLit, https://batlit.org) v0.9 hash://md5/1cda41b660daf15c156f1e4cabf8c6f5 - Reference List, Metadata, and Associated Zenodo Deposits

The Bat Literature Project (BatLit) facilitates discovery of scientific literature on bats (Chiroptera).

This data publication contains versioned Zotero metadata and provenance of the batlit literature (Sherman et al. 2024) records, as tracked by Preston (a biodiversity data tracker, Elliott et al. 2020,2023) using the following workflow:

in which ZOTERO_TOKEN is an API token with sufficient access to Zotero's Bat Literature Project group. Note that, for this publication, the pdf content was not included for copyright reasons. However, secure links (i.e. md5 content hashes) to these PDFs are embedded in the archives. The result is a version corpus of batlit metadata, and their origins, packaged in tar.gz and zip archives.  

BatLit Literature Record Index

Literature records can be extracted from this corpus in various ways. As an example, we show a reference list of a recent version of the BatLit Corpus, both of which are provided in included batlit metadata archives (i.e., data.zip, data.tar.gz). For ease of processing, we’ve included a sample of 3 records in the table below, as well as files in tsv/csv formats include 100 records and all records.

Note that id points to the records as seen on Zotero, attachment points to the attachment records as seen on Zotero, attachmentId is the signature/hash of the associated pdf, corpusId is the signature/hash of the applicable BatLit version (see version table below).

BatLit Literature Record Index on Zenodo

Most BatLlit records are dissemated through Zenodo. The files ending with "on_zenodo" contains associations of batlit records with their deposits on Zenodo. 

See, for instance, the first record in refs-on-zenodo.csv as listed below in XTAB format along with the the bash script that produced it. Note that the alternativeDoi and alternativeDoiUrl point to a Zenodo deposit of Otto 2007 at doi:10.5281/zenodo.13409129 (as seen on Zenodo on 2025-02-07).
