# Sentinel-1 SAR Flood Mapping - VAB (Italy)

This repository contains scripts and documentation for detecting flooded areas using **Sentinel-1 SAR VV polarization imagery** in the Vulture Alto-Bradano (VAB) area, Basilicata, Italy.

## Project Overview
The workflow uses Google Earth Engine (GEE) to:
- Filter Sentinel-1 GRD images by date, polarization, and instrument mode.
- Extract image metadata (ID, satellite, acquisition date).
- Compute the median of available images to reduce noise.
- Detect flooded areas using a backscatter threshold.
- Visualize outputs on the map with a legend for flooded areas.
- Export results as GeoTIFF for scientific analysis.

## Area of Interest
- Vulture Alto-Bradano, Basilicata, Italy
- Boundaries defined in the `table` FeatureCollection/geometry.

## Main Script Features
- **Data source:** `COPERNICUS/S1_GRD` (VV polarization, IW mode)
- **Temporal window:** January 19-25, 2023
- **Flood detection:** Threshold on median VV backscatter
- **Visualization:** Median image and flooded areas overlay, with a UI legend
- **Export:** Flood mask as GeoTIFF in EPSG:32633
