Project Management and Infrastructure Development of Nigeria: A Comprehensive Analysis

This research paper is a comprehensive analysis of the nature of connection between Project Management (PM) and Nigeria’s Infrastructure development. The paper has systematically reviewed infrastructure projects and Project Management in Nigeria. The paper adopted a systematic review of over 80 related research papers  from several international and reputable journals using JSTOR, Google Scholar, PubMed, and the Research Gate database of all related topics in order to determine the nature of connections and comprehend the motivations, viewpoints, theories, empiricism, and opinions of scholars and findings. The results emphasized the role Project management on Infrastructure development of Nigeria and the vital roles they play in promoting economic growth and listed key obstacles to project completion. The study discovered a direct connection between these project failures and disregard for project management principles using particular examples from Nigeria.  The study also revealed a direct connection between Project management and Nigeria’s Infrastructure development. Based on this, it was then proposed that the delivery of public sector-funded infrastructure projects in Nigeria would be greatly aided by the appointment of capable project managers with competency in project management, appropriate cost and budget management, adequate stakeholder management, and sound project conception and definition. The Study concludes that the incessant infrastructural project abandonment in Nigeria can be reduced and controlled by applying project management principles as well as engaging project management experts for every infrastructural project in Nigeria. The study recommends that the government should only engage the services of project management experts to manage all infrastructural projects across the country to reduce the incessant cases of infrastructural project abandonments in Nigeria.
