Ethical and Legal Issues In the Nigerian Film Industry

This chapter appears in Film and Multimedia Production: Principles and Practice (pp. 331–346), edited by Prof. Sunny E. Udeze, Dr. Adanna V. Obiora, and Dr. Anthony O. It examines key ethical issues such as the objectification of women, cultural misrepresentation, negative national portrayal, and obscenity as well as legal challenges including copyright infringement, piracy, invasion of privacy, and defamation. The chapter also discusses film regulatory agencies and the challenges of regulating the Nigerian film industry. The chapter concludes by offering strategic recommendations for improving the industry practice and productivity.
