ஜெனிலா கோம்ஸ் பாடல்களில் காதல் கழிவிரக்கம்

பெண் எழுத்தாளர்கள் படைக்கும் இலக்கியங்களிலும், பெண் வாழ்க்கை அனுபவங்களை மையமாகக் கொண்ட இலக்கியங்களிலும் காதலின் கழிவிரக்கம் தொடர்ந்து ஒரு முக்கிய உளஉணர்வுப் பொருண்மையாக விளங்குகிறது. இப்படியான உணர்வுகள் தமிழில் சங்கயுகத்திலிருந்தே காணப்படும் மரபுடன் நெருங்கிய தொடர்புடையவை; மேலும் இத்தலைப்பு இந்திய மற்றும் உலக இலக்கியங்களிலும் பரவலாகப் பதிவாகியுள்ளது. இவ்வரலாற்றுப் பின்னணியில், இக்கட்டுரை ஆங்கிலப் பாப் இசைக் கலைஞர் செலீனா கோம்ஸ் அவர்களின் பாடல்களில் வெளிப்படும் காதல்–கழிவிரக்க உணர்வுகளையும், அவை உருவாக்கும் அழகியல் வடிவாக்கங்களையும் ஆராய்கிறது. ஆய்விற்காக கோம்ஸ் பாடிய ஐந்து தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட பாடல்கள் முதன்மைத் தரவாகக் கொள்ளப்படுகின்றன.

கட்டுரை முதலில் ‘கழிவிரக்கம்’ மற்றும் ‘அழகியல்’ ஆகிய கருத்துகளின் கோட்பாட்டுத்தளத்தை விளக்கி, பின்னர் அவை தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட பாடல்களில் எவ்வாறு செயல்படுகின்றன என்பதைப் பகுப்பாய்வு செய்கிறது. மேலும், சங்க இலக்கியத்தின் திணை–அடிப்படையியல் (thinai-based literary framework) குறித்த கூறுகளும் பாடல்களின் உணர்வோட்டத்துடன் ஒப்பிடத் தக்க இணைப்பாக முன்வைக்கப்படுகின்றன. இவ்வாய்வு, சங்கக் கவிதைகளின் உணர்வியல்–அழகியல் பார்வை நவீன பாப் இசை வெளிப்பாடுகளிலும் எவ்வாறு பிரதிபலிக்கிறது என்பதை விளக்குகிறது.

Themes of love and emotional remorse have remained central to literature authored by women as well as to works foregrounding women’s lived experiences. In Tamil literary history, such affective expressions trace back to the early layers of Sangam poetry, and similar motifs appear widely across Indian and global literary traditions. Situated within this broader comparative frame, the present study examines the representation of love–remorse and its aesthetic rendering in selected songs of English pop singer Selena Gomez. Five songs form the primary corpus for analysis.

The paper first outlines the conceptual foundations of remorse and aesthetic experience, then applies these frameworks to interpret the emotional and stylistic textures of the chosen songs. Additionally, the study draws on relevant aspects of the thinai-based classical Tamil aesthetic framework, illuminating resonances between Sangam poetics and contemporary popular music. The analysis highlights the continuity of emotional–aesthetic structures across literary and musical traditions.
