(2025) What Do Adolescents Think About an App Designed to Reduce Cognitive Risk Factors for Eating Disorders? A Mixed Methods Study Dataset. (v1.0), [dataset], Zenodo. DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17606813 DATA & FILE OVERVIEW File List: (1) quantitative_dataset.sav : Contains pseudonymized quantitative data from sociodemographic and usability questionnaires completed by participants. (2) qualitative_interviews_dataset.xlsx : Includes pseudonymized interview transcripts related to adolescents’ experiences using the app. (3) codebook_ quantitative_dataset.xlsx : Data dictionary describing variable names, labels, value coding, and scales used in the quantitative dataset. (4) codebook_qualitative_dataset.xlsx : Data dictionary describing variable names, labels and themes used in the qualitative dataset. (5) README.txt : Documentation file describing dataset content, structure, and access information. Relationship between files, if important: The two datasets correspond to the same mixed-methods study. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected from the same participant sample and are complementary. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: This dataset forms part of a larger randomized controlled trial (RCT) on eHealth interventions for eating disorders prevention. The broader RCT dataset and primary outcome measures are published separately (see related publication). Personal identifiers, consent forms, and raw usage logs have been excluded to preserve participant confidentiality. Are there multiple versions of the dataset? No. This is the initial public release (Version 1.0). If yes, name of file(s) that was updated: Why was the file updated? When was the file updated? METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: A mixed methods design was employed, whereby both types of data (quantitative and qualitative) were collected simultaneously and analysed separately, with the objective of informing each other. Quantitative ratings were obtained from self-reported questionnaires, while qualitative evaluations of perceived usability and acceptability were extracted from a qualitative interview. More information can be found in: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.beth.2025.07.005 Methods for processing the data: Raw questionnaire data were cleaned and aggregated in IBM SPSS Statistics version 29.0 prior to analysis. Variables were labeled and documented using SPSS’s variable and value label functions. Composite scores were calculated according to validated scoring procedures. The interviews were transcribed verbatim for coding at the time they were conducted. Interview transcripts were later anonymized, reviewed for transcription accuracy, and formatted for thematic analysis. The final dataset contains only pseudonymized responses. Instrument- or software-specific information needed to interpret the data: Quantitative data were processed and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 29.0. Qualitative data were stored and organized in Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) format for coding and thematic exploration. Standards and calibration information, if appropriate: Not applicable. No physical instruments or measurement calibration procedures were used in this study. Environmental/experimental conditions: Data collection took place in educational settings (secondary school) under supervised conditions. Participants used the app on their mobile devices in quiet classroom environments, ensuring similar conditions across data collection sessions. Describe any quality-assurance procedures performed on the data: For the qualitative component, the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) guidelines (Tong et al., 2007) were followed. Researcher triangulation was conducted through the independent involvement of two researchers in data collection and interpretation. Methodological triangulation was applied by combining quantitative and qualitative methods, while codification triangulation involved three analysts independently coding the transcripts. Theoretical triangulation was achieved through comparison and discussion with previous literature. For the quantitative data, all datasets were double-checked for completeness and consistency prior to analysis. Variable labels, value codes, and derived scores were verified against the original questionnaire structure to minimize data entry and processing errors.
