Description

The base raw hourly precipitation non processed station data for the period 2001-2016 have been provided by CETEMPS for a total of 3712 stations (~2200 on average) without any quality check. The 15 years data have varying station availability periods and show inconsistent density across the domain with outliers and data errors, but have high density and cover the whole of Italy.
The data have been cleaned considering all known station problems, and suspicious outliers were expunged. The resulting cleaned up data have been regridded  on Lambert Conformal Conic grids with a method based on Delaunay polygons using SciPy's interpolate.griddata, a simple, fast method which minimizes smoothing similarly to the one used for Norway's KLIMAGRID dataset (Mohr, 2008, 2009).
The resulting NetCDF CF-compliant output format is presented at 3km and regridded at 10 km.
