D5.9 Holistic RRI, SDG, Open Science and Social Impact evaluation framework (update): Responsible and Sustainable Research Reflection Tool for Ocean and Waters

This report presents a thoughtful and timely contribution to aligning research and innovation with societal and environmental values through the lens of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Open Science, and Social Impact. Central to the report is the development of the Responsible and Sustainable Research Reflection Tool for Ocean and Waters, designed to simplify and integrate these frameworks into practical applications—especially within the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters.”

The tool offers a structured approach to evaluating projects across motivational, process, and outcome levels, encouraging deeper reflection, knowledge transfer, and iterative improvement. Its broader counterpart, applicable across thematic areas, enhances the tool’s relevance beyond marine contexts. Developed under the BlueMissionAA initiative, the report underscores the importance of citizen engagement, climate resilience, and ecosystem restoration in the Atlantic and Arctic basins.

Overall, the reflection tools provide a valuable mechanism for fostering responsible innovation and ensuring that research outcomes resonate with societal and planetary needs.
