The SunPy Ecosystem: Open-Source Tools for Solar and Heliospheric Research
Description
The SunPy Ecosystem: Open-Source Tools for Solar and Heliospheric Research
The SunPy Project is a community-led effort to develop open-source Python tools for solar and heliospheric data analysis. At its core is the sunpy library, supported by a growing ecosystem of affiliated packages that provide functionality for a wide range of instruments and data types including imagers, coronagraphs, spectrographs, and in-situ measurements. These tools enable standardised, mission-agnostic workflows for accessing, analysing, and visualising observations from across the solar and heliospheric system. A key strength of the ecosystem is its powerful coordinate framework, which supports accurate spatial analysis across instruments and viewpoints, along with consistent handling of time, metadata, and physical units.
Here, I’ll give an update on recent developments across the SunPy ecosystem, covering new features, improved usability, expanded mission support, and ongoing maintenance efforts. I’ll also touch on how the ecosystem is evolving to better support multi-mission science, and highlight some of the ways the community is contributing to its growth. Whether you're a regular user or just curious about what's available, this will be a chance to catch up on where things stand and where we're headed.
