Mechanical characterization and simulation data for Ultradur B4331 G6 HR (short glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastic, PBT-GF30) and CF GP 1000T (continuous carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic, CF-PC)

Description

This dataset includes experimental data and simulation results for a short glass fiber-reinforced polybutylene terephthalate (Ultradur B4331 G6 HR, PBT-GF30) and a continuous carbon fiber-reinforced polycarbonate (CF-GP 1000T, CF-PC). The experimental charcaterization has been performed according to the publication (in submission) named in the subtitle and a related earlier publication (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.compositesb.2023.110734). The method is based on the concept of an equilibrium curve. In order to derive an approximation to the equilibrium curve of the material and to derive material properties, the following tests have been performed for PBT-GF30 and are provided in the dataset:

  • Quasi-static tensile tests
  • Preliminary relaxation tests
  • Stepwise relaxation test
  • Validation creep test

For CF-PC the following data is provided:

  • Stepwise relaxation tests
  • Creep tests

For PBT-GF30, flat specimens have been milled from the center of 110x110 mm plates with a thickness of 2 mm. The specimen geometry was set according to ISO 527 1BA. Specimens have been milled in 0°, 30°, 45° and 90° relative to the molding direction.

For CF-PC, hoop wound tubular specimens with an inner diameter of 34 mm, a wall thickness of 2 mm and a length of 120 mm have been used. The tubular specimens were manufactured from 12.7 mm wide, pre-impregnated tapes using a laser-assisted winding system. The specimens have been tested on a biaxial testing machine with an axial and torsional drive.

The simulation data has been generated using the model described in the publication.

The measured specimen data is complemented with additional metadata in JSON format. The nomenclature is <specimen name>.json.

The experimental data is structured using the following scheme:

<test-type>/<orientation>/<specimen-name>, e.g.: 03_Creep_Tests/0/0-13
