Description

Description

This repository contains the data associated with a research paper by M. Perrette and M. Mengel on relative sea level projections constrained by historical trends at tide gauge sites. The main data is provided as a netcdf file with yearly timesteps.

In addition, the repository also contains the data for the webapp https://sealevel.netlify.app in csv format. The csv data provides decadal sea level change data by tide gauge site (using the PSMSL ID) for all sensitivity experiments presented in Figure S14 and S15.

File structure and Metadata

In the netcdf dataset, each variable has the form is f"{diag}_{field}_{source}" and the scenario is indicated as "experiment" dimension.

The csv data is structured as followed:

  • "scenario" (csvs): the future scenario (e.g. "ssp585", "CurPol", "ssp585_mu"). The "_mu" suffix indicates that the median temperature was used. Otherwise the full temperature ensemble was sampled for the projections.
  • "diag": the diagnostic. "change" refers to sea level change since the 1995-2014 baseline, and "rate" the sea level rate
  • "field": the reference frame:
    • "global": global-mean sea level
    • "rsl": relative sea level
    • "rad": vertical land motion
    • "gsl": geocentric sea level
  • "source": sea-level source:
    • "total": the sum of all contributions
    • "steric": thermal expansion ("global" field) or sterodynamic sea level ("rsl" and "gsl" field) ...
    • "vlm": sum of "gia" and "vlm_res"
    • "tas" : global mean surface temperature used in the projections ("global" only)
