Demonstrations Planning Guidelines

Description

SOTERIA aims to accelerate the attainment of the Vision Zero EU goal for Vulnerable Road Users
(VRUs) through a holistic framework of innovative models, tools and services that enable data
driven urban safety intelligence, facilitate safe travelling of VRUs and foster the safe integration
of micro-mobility services in complex environments. The deployment and assessment of these
solutions will take place in our representative Living Lab (LL) cities and areas, addressing varying
European Union (EU) urban contexts, social conditions, gather qualitative and quantitative results,
and validate their effectiveness.
In the context of the above, the purpose of this deliverable is to provide the four pilots with a
common methodology for the specification and evaluation of the activities to be conducted in
each pilot, ensuring consistency over them. These guidelines describe the complete
demonstration process, starting from the design, planning and preparation stage, progressing
through the intermediate step of measure implementation, and culminating in the final
evaluation procedure. By using a uniform methodology across all SOTERIA demonstrations, the
goal is to draw common insights and understand how contextual variations affect the usage and
effectiveness of SOTERIA developments. These guidelines are in line with the process and impact
evaluation framework developed by the CIVITAS initiative, which promotes sustainable urban
mobility through knowledge exchange and best practices among European cities. By aligning with
the CIVITAS methodology, consistency is ensured in terminology, impact categories, indicators,
implementation processes, and reporting.
Taking into account the developed methodology, the SOTERIA use cases, as outlined in SOTERIA
D1.2 | Requirements and SOTERIA architecture, are meticulously translated into specific
demonstrations. These serve as the basis for demonstrating and evaluating solutions in each LL.
At last, a correlation between the SOTERIA demonstrations and the designated pilot locations is
presented. The proposed SOTERIA demonstrations must be customised and refined by each LL
during the demonstration phase to suit their specific requirements and local context.
