ZTF J0007: An sdB Dwarf Nova

  • 1. ROR icon Universität Hamburg

Description

Compact hot subwarf (sdB) binaries with white dwarf (WD) companions and orbital periods ¡ 2 hours are potential supernova Ia progenitors through the double detonation channel. Accretion of helium rich material onto the WD can lead to a detonation of the helium layer which in turn triggers the explosion of the WD in a double-detonation supernova. So far, there are only a handful of compact sdB-WD binaries known which show indirect evidence for an accretion disk. ZTFJ0007 shows periodic outbursting events repeating every 9 days that have characteristics similar to a dwarf nova. This is the first known sdB-WD binary with this signature, giving very strong evidence for the existence of an accretion disk. In this talk we present our investigation into ZTFJ0007, including its system parameters, spectral and photometric properties, and the peculiar nature of its outbursts.
