D7.4 - Results from the expert-based socio-economic assessment of EBA interventions

Description

This document is a deliverable of the SCORE project, funded under the European Union’s (EU) Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101003534.

The main aim of this document is to present the results of WP7’s task 7.4, which focuses on the expert-based socio-economic assessment of adaptation interventions, with a particular emphasis on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EBA). Specifically, it compares the costs and benefits of EBA measures in the four WP7 frontrunner CCLLs. The first case study compares a floodable park with an alternative river channelisation solution to mitigate flooding in the municipality of Errenteria (Oarsoaldea, Spain). The second case study evaluates intermittent river restoration for flood mitigation in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Spain), through an avoided cost approach. The third case analysis in Piran (Slovenia) assesses the use of historic water cisterns for drought periods versus alternative solutions. A fourth case, conducted in the same CCLL, focuses on the evaluation of the benefits of green spaces for heatwave mitigation. The fifth and final case study examines coastal erosion in Sligo County (Ireland), where it conducts a monetary valuation of the ecosystem services provided by beach and dune areas. Additionally, it presents a general comparison with the costs associated with dune management.
