Abstract
Rural development is crucial for economic growth and social equity, particularly in Maharashtra, a state with both industrial advancements and persistent rural challenges. Key issues include agricultural distress, water scarcity, unemployment, poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and high rural-urban migration. These challenges contribute to the widening rural-urban divide.
This paper examines these issues based on academic studies, government reports, and policy evaluations. It also suggests strategic solutions such as enhancing irrigation facilities, promoting sustainable agriculture, strengthening rural industries, expanding vocational training, and improving healthcare and education services. While government initiatives like Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan, PM-KISAN, and MGNREGA show promise, their implementation requires improvement. A multi-pronged approach involving government policies, private sector participation, and community-driven initiatives is essential for sustainable rural development
