Graphical materials for the evaluation of flows during an extreme flash flood event in the eastern Iberian Peninsula in october 2024

Description

At the end of October 2024, an extraordinary storm took place in the east of the Iberian Peninsula whose consequences were very significant, both in terms of loss of human lives and economic damage in the affected regions. The most important part took place in the surroundings of the Spanish city of Valencia, where the intense rains were concentrated in less than 10 hours in a part of the territory. The accumulated rainfall reached up to 771 mm in the city of Turís, and the total flow circulating through the three affected basins (Turia and Júcar rivers basins, Albufera lagoon) exceeded 15,000 m3 s−1. This document contains the additional graphic materials to the article where how many the water flows through the channels are described.

Drawings can be reused by citing the source. They are placed embedded and each of them contains the graphic scale at which it has been drawn from the measurements made at each site. To get the image in high quality, download the specific file from the repository.

 Pictures are obtained between December 2024 and February 2025 in the sites where the river cross section was evaluated. The objective was to take measure of the maximum peak of the flood to measure the wetted river cross section, and calculate the maximum flow in the site.
