D1.1 - Reference document on European AI Lighthouse

The deliverable D1.1, “Reference document on European AI Lighthouse implementation” presents the European AI Lighthouse under different aspects. It starts by analyzing the policy background leading to the idea of AI lighthouse and the general objectives. The current state of the AI Lighthouse is then presented with a complementary description of the nine pillar projects and the existing additional initiatives contributing to the Lighthouse. The multiple collaboration actions and activities are described, focusing on currently implemented mechanisms. In a second step, novel insights on possible activities to strengthen the AI Lighthouse are presented. These encompass actions for community mobilization, recommendations for increasing visibility, role of upcoming coordination actions, exploitation and sustainability of the AI Lighthouse, and scientific and organizational recommendations to leverage the AI Lighthouse networks. Finally, this document summarizes the novel objectives and suggests a new phase in the AI policy making process.
