Description
The “European Blockchain Standardisation Day,” jointly organised by the SEEBLOCKS & BLOCKSTAND projects, convened key stakeholders from policy, industry, academia, and standardisation bodies. The event served as a platform to showcase how these two European blockchain projects had been instrumental in enabling European leadership in global blockchain standardisation and, consequently, in strengthening Europe’s strategic autonomy within the field.
As blockchain technology continued its evolution, the pivotal role of standardisation in ensuring its secure, interoperable, and scalable adoption across industries and borders was highlighted. Standardised blockchain protocols were recognised as vital for unlocking the full potential of blockchain in creating more efficient, secure, and equitable economies.
The involvement of European experts in blockchain standardisation was underscored as essential for ensuring that blockchain technology was developed in a manner that aligned with European values, adhered to EU regulations, fostered economic growth, and promoted global leadership.
This event, featuring panel discussions and working sessions, provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and future pathways for blockchain innovation and standardisation in Europe. A wide range of topics were addressed, including Digital Wallets, Digital Product Passports, Digital Finance, Auditing of DLTs, Privacy and Security, and Environmental, Social, and Governance considerations within blockchain.
The “European Blockchain Standardisation Day” took place on April 9th, 2025, at AutoWorld, during the ISO TC 307 Plenary Week.
