ESGF Node Survey: Projects, storage and future plans

To determine the number of functional data nodes within the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) that host Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) and Coordinated Regional Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) data, and their operational characteristics, a survey was conducted on behalf of Climate Data Nodes Operations Team (CDNOT) and the CORDEX head office. The survey asked questions on the following themes: 

• ESGF node type 
• Hardware used for data storage 
• Projects supported and storage space in petabytes (PB) 
• Node funding 
• Future plans and feedback to CDNOT

The survey was intially circulated on March 11 2025, and responses were collected until 03 April June 2025, with late responses collected until 22 April 2025. 26 nodes responded intially. The anonymised results of the survey can be found in this document.
