ASSESSMENT OF SEDİMENTATİON CONDİTİONS BY GEOPHYSİCAL METHODS

  • 1. Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University

Description

Borehole geophysics data are essential for investigating the geological structure of oil and gas fields, identifying productive layers, estimating hydrocarbon reserves, and monitoring the development and design of oil and gas field operations. At present, borehole geophysics plays a key role in geological studies, drilling activities, and production processes during the exploration and exploitation of oil and gas fields.
For a comprehensive analysis of sedimentation conditions, it is crucial to obtain detailed and well-supported information regarding their facies characteristics. The application of multiple borehole geophysics methods enhances the accuracy of such studies. These methods serve as the primary approach for determining facies characteristics, allowing the evaluation of various geophysical parameters that represent sediment properties.
These parameters include rock resistivity, permeability, radioactivity, acoustic hardness, and density, which are used to assess porosity, clay content, sand fraction, and fluid saturation.
Sedimentation is one of the most complex geological processes. Approximately 90% of the extracted oil and gas condensate is associated with the sediments of the Productive Series (PS). A thorough examination of these sediments holds significant theoretical and practical importance. Investigating the conditions of their accumulation, sediment composition, and other related factors remains a key geological concern. This article focuses on analyzing these aspects and interpreting the data obtained.
