Basionym: Myrcianthes cionei Mattos (1971:2).

Type:— BRAZIL, São Paulo, Pariquera-Açu, June 1971, J.R. Mattos 15612 (holotype HB, isotype SP- isotype presumedly destroyed in transit between herbaria, image available at http://intermountainbiota.org/portal/ collections/individual/index.php?occid=3368499).

Distribution:—All collections are from Pariquera-Açu, in São Paulo.

Note:—Grifo (1992: 292) suggested this species could be a member of Myrciinae (“ Myrcia group”; Lucas et al., 2007). The embryo is myrcioid [see collection Ivanauskas 253 (ESA, HRCB, SP)]. The flowers are arranged in dichasia and the flower buds are almost closed [see image of Mattos 16236 (SP) available at http://intermountainbiota. org/portal/collections/individual/index.php?occid=3368501, presumed destroyed in transit between herbaria].
