A Comprehensive Review On Antimicrobial Activity Of Benzimidazole And Its Synthesized Hybrid Derivatives

Description

ABSTRACT

Benzimidazole moiety have gained substantial attention within the discipline of medicinal chemistry due to their structural adaptability and widespread antimicrobial activity. The increased prevalence of antimicrobial resistance has prompted the exploration of new therapeutic agents which exhibits enhanced efficacy and selectivity. Benzimidazole recognized as a valuable heterocyclic framework that has shown significant antimicrobial activity leading to the creation of hybrid derivatives aimed at improving its pharmacological properties. The integration of benzimidazole with various functional groups and hybridization with other pharmacophores including hydrazones, triazoles and oxadiazoles which improves antibacterial and antifungal activity against multidrug –resistant pathogens. Benzimidazole ring is taken into consideration as crucial pharmacophore in modern-day drug discovery. In current years more interest has been given to design and synthesis of derivatives of benzimidazole. This review presents an comprehensive analysis of anti-microbial properties of benzimidazole and its novel hybrid benzimidazole derivatives.
