Pyramidellidae (Gastropoda, Heterobranchia, Panpulmonata) from the outer continental shelf and slope off Galicia (NW Spain)
Authors/Creators
Description
Pyramidellidae were studied from several expeditions off Galicia (NW Spain), conducted between 2002 and 2009, sampling in the depth range 102-3200 m. The family was represented by 54 species belonging to 15 genera, of which only 23 were found with soft parts. Five of the species have been identified with doubt, five more, which could be undescribed species, are identified to the genus level only and one species of the genus
Eulimella is described as new. Most of the species (33) were found in the continental shelf above 250 m depth and 11 were collected deeper than 1000 m. Most species appeared in low abundance, 18 of them represented by one or two shells, while only 16 species were represented by 10 or more shells. Four species (Parthenina brattstroemi, Pyrgiscus mediocris, Turbonilla hamonvillei and Eulimella atlantis) are recorded for the first time in
Spanish waters, and 13 more are new to northern Spain.
