Indeed, many published papers using this data should be retracted. Before using this data I highly recommend that you thoroughly read my book on UCR data, particularly the chapter on hate crimes (https://ucrbook.com/hate-crimes.html) as well as the FBI's own manual on this data. The data file errors fall into three categories: (1) wrong calculation of water yield using the reported values in the source literature; (2) disparate study designs that proved limiting in the categorical binning of the type of forest treatment or ground cover change; (3) epistemic uncertainty in the source papers. An example of the latter is, after our paper was published, we were informed that the underlying data in one of the source papers showed completely opposite trends to the trends reported in the source paper. We caution against use of these data for any further analysis. To that end, we are working on a new data compilation together with all parties associated with the Matters Arising and Retraction and will alert the community to its availability here when available."

Herring Gull with band number A-676871, the basis of the record, was found dead on 20 June 1966 on the shore of Little Traverse Bay near Petoskey, Michigan, and reported to the Bird Banding Laboratory. The laboratory then mistakenly advised Pettingill that this gull was banded by him on 29 June 1930 on coastal Maine. He actually banded Herring Gull number A-676871 as a young bird on one of the Beaver Islands in Lake Michigan on 8 July 1948. The gull was thus 18 instead of 36 years old."
