Evaluating Non-Invasive Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Pain Management in Bechterew Disease: A Pilot Study
Description
This pilot study explores the effectiveness of non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) using the Pulsetto device for managing symptoms of Bechterew disease (ankylosing spondylitis). Seven participants underwent twice-daily 20-minute nVNS sessions over two weeks, with outcomes assessed through self-reported measures of pain intensity, spinal stiffness, mobility, sleep quality, and mood. The study demonstrated significant reductions in pain, improved spinal flexibility, better sleep quality, and enhanced well-being for most participants. While promising, further research is needed to optimize parameters, assess long-term effects, and validate findings in larger, diverse populations.
