Current valid name: Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii (Giglioli, 1872)
Holotype: ZMB 31645/31646 (= A 12.04.2), female, adult, skull, skin, skeleton; “östlich vom Russissi-Fluss an der Grenze von Urundi in der Nähe der Akanjaru-Quelle” [origin of the Akanyaru River east of the Ruzizi River], border area Rwanda / Burundi; collected by Pfeiffer, 27 April 1903.
