Deliverable D4.1 (D07) Preliminary report on the impact of agricultural, climate, environmental and trade policies

This report examines how agricultural, climate, environmental, and trade policies influence the Safe and Just Operating Space (SJOS). A comprehensive review of existing research revealed a stronger focus on environmental aspects (Safe Operating Space) than on social dimensions (Just Operating Space), such as equity, health, and nutrition. This highlights a critical research gap in understanding how policies affect social well-being alongside environmental sustainability. The study also found limited exploration of the synergies and trade-offs between SJOS dimensions, a key consideration for evaluating comprehensive policy frameworks like the EU Green Deal. Methodologically, the report identifies opportunities to enhance current policy evaluation tools, particularly for predicting policy impacts before implementation. Looking ahead, the report outlines planned activities for Work Package 4, which will contribute to developing advanced models for policy analysis. These efforts aim to provide a more integrated understanding of how policies shape sustainable and equitable agricultural systems.
