Description

Deliverable 5.6 aims to collect the work conducted within task 5.3 “Safe by design strategies development”, in particular subtask 5.3.3 SbD and SusbD integration. This subtask is based on the work performed in subtask 5.3.1, where an extensively literature review was done in order to come out with a library of well-balanced safe by material design strategies applied to different types of nanomaterials, and in subtask 5.3.2, “Safe by process design strategies”, focused on the exhaustive analysis of the production processes, as well as the results obtained from the monitoring campaigns where, according to this analysis, the proper safe by process design strategies were proposed also considering, where applicable, the recommendation for implementing risk management measures (RMM) identified also in WP6.
It is worth to mention that the activities conducted in this task and the results reported in the current deliverable are related to the work done before: the results reported in deliverable D5.1 “DIAGONAL SbD and SusbD implementation framework”, in the third month of the project, which was aimed at implementing a theoretical framework for the subsequent development of Safe-by-Design (SbD) and Sustainability-by-Design (SusbD) strategies under the scope of High Aspect Ratio Nanoparticle (HARN) and Multi-Component Nanomaterial (MCNM) production, and D5.5 Report on SbD strategies, which compiles all SbD strategies that can be applied in the case studies of the project, published in M30.
With the strategies defined in deliverable D5.5, the companies selected those that most fitted their company strategy or those that they considered to be more feasible to adopt. Thus, the HARN and MCNM synthesis process was modified to see if the proposed strategies achieved the desired objectives. This deliverable contains the results and evaluation of implementing the strategies and the assessment of the results obtained. The results presented in the deliverable come from the Demonstrator Report redesigned and from WP4-toxicological reports. For more details on these results, it is recommended to access these reports.
The suggestion of Sustainability by design strategies for the case studies is out of the scope of this deliverable since they have been evaluated in a different task and reported in D. 5.3.
