Event Overview:

We welcome you to the From Earth Science to Action: Enabling MSI’s through NASA Data, Opportunities and Communities event located at Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) on Saturday, January 112025. The event is hosted by XULA in collaboration with NASA's Earth Science Data Systems, Xavier University of Louisiana, NASA's Early Career Research Program, and The American Meteorological Society (AMS) ahead of the 2025 AMS Annual Meeting.  The goal of this activity is to interact with and support the Earth science data users from MSI's across the region, as well as ones who are traveling to New Orleans to attend the AMS meeting.

The planning team will tailor the activities to meet the needs of both beginning users of NASA data, as well as more experienced ones.  Therefore, to better serve the needs of these MSI communities of potential and practice, the event will be broken into two parts:

Session 1: Overview and Introduction to NASA Earthdata, other NASA Programs, and External Community
9AM-12PM:
All MSI's are welcome to attend, regardless of experience with using NASA Earthdata.

  • Overview of NASA’s Earth Science Division, the Earth Science Data Systems Program, the Early Career Research Program and other projects, opportunities, and community engagement activities within the Earth Science Division
  • Also come and learn from community partners about resources, opportunities, and events to become more connected!
Attendees will receive a free copy of Megalodons, Mermaids, and Climate Change: Answers to Your Ocean and Atmosphere Questions by Ellen Prager and Dave Jones. Columbia University Press

While these resources may be used to access a variety of NASA Earth observation data from all different spheres of the Earth system, the focus of this workshop will center on Air Quality use cases.

This hands-on session is limited to 30 participants who have some familiarity with NASA data and remote sensing.  A subsequent registration form will be sent to the first 30 who respond in this survey their intention to attend.
