An Open-Source Carbon Emissions Simulator for Smart Grid Co-Simulation Scenarios
Authors/Creators
Description
Modeling of carbon emissions and related footprints ought to be an important element in the development of smart power grids and advanced power systems. However, the necessary emissions calculations including scenario assumptions and default emission factors are usually beyond the scope of existing software solutions and are completely left to the user. In this work, we presented an open-source Python-based component that combines an emission calculation model and a database of available emission factors for a variety of fuels and geographic locations. This component can be part of a co-simulation scenario for advanced power systems, and provides dynamic calculations of the carbon footprint of the entire scenario, coupled systems or their elements.
