Type:— INDIA, Kerala, Kollam district, Tranvancore Hills, November 1887, T. F. Bourdillon 18 [lectotype, MH! (MH00001913, Fig. 7), designated here]; syntypes: INDIA, Karnataka, South Canara, s.d., Beddome ? s.n. [MH! (MH00001912)]; Travancore, 25 November 1893, T. F. Bourdillon s.n. [K (K000669995, image!)].
Salacia malabarica was described by Gamble based on the R. A. Beddome and T. F. Bourdillon collections. In the protologue no specific type has been given and therefore a typification is required. Two collections by Bourdillon deposited at MH and K, other one is presumably from Beddome deposited at MH. One of the Bourdillon collections at MH (MH 00001913) from Travancore hills agrees with protologue and is designated here as lectotype. Although remaining two collections by T. F. Bourdillon (K 000669995) from Travancore at K and Beddome? (MH 00001912) from south Canara at MH are kept as syntypes. Later collection is without collector details, but it is annotated by Gamble and locality is the same as in protologue, therefore, kept as an original material.
