Description

The University of Basel Kings' Valley Project is investigating several undecorated tombs in the Valley of the Kings that were not intended for pharaohs. The two shaft tombs KV 40 and KV 64, which was only discovered in 2011 / 2012, have been particularly rewarding so far. Despite intensive looting of the tombs, a complex history of use and robbery can be reconstructed on the basis of the findings, ranging from the middle of the 18th Dynasty to the end of the Third Intermediate Period. In the present volume, all inscribed objects of the 18th Dynasty are presented: Wooden tablets, vessel inscriptions, seals and canopic jars as well as the pottery. The objects and their inscriptions provide a novel insight into the burial rituals and funerary equipment of members of the royal family and the female entourage of King Amenhotep III.
