SPSS, MATLAB, and Mathematica Usage at Utrecht University: A Trend Analysis and Survey

The project aims to enhance the understanding of the usage of SPSS, MATLAB, and Mathematica at Utrecht University, and to explore their substitution with Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS). Firstly, metadata from OpenAlex was collected to quantify the usage of SPSS, MATLAB and Mathematica. Furthermore, to get a deeper understanding of the trend, a detailed survey was conducted to assess the current usage of these software and their potential FOSS alternatives. These slides present the outcomes of the study, highlighting the overall trends and key findings from the survey. Additionally, the questionnaire used for the survey is included for reference.
