Replacement name for Rattus obiensis Fabre, Portela Miguez, Holden, Fitriana, Semiadi, Musser, & Helgen, 2023, a junior homonym of Rattus rattus obiensis Sody, 1941

Holotype. The holotype is MZB 38231, in the Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense. See Fabre et al. (2023) for further details.

Type locality. The type locality is located on Gunung Sere, in the southwest of the island of Obi (North Maluku Province, Indonesia); see Fabre et al. (2023) for further details. This species is known only from the island of Obi to date.

Etymology. The specific name is derived from Ombirah an alternate name for the island of Obi.
