Open Science encompasses a number of different components (e.g. open access, open research data or open educational resources) and a number of aspects (e.g.  open scientific infrastructures or open engagement of societal actors) according to the UNESCO Factsheet Understanding Open Science (https://doi.org/10.54677/UTCD9302). This lecture will provide an overview on the European and German developments in Open Science and will also touch on challenges when pursuing the objective of opening science.
