  "description": "<p>El Herbario Nacional Forestal se creó hace 39 años (1958) como parte de los proyectos de botánica del antiguo Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales. En los inicios del herbario, participaron tanto en la recolecta como en la determinación del material botánico, el Prof. Eizi Matuda, el Dr. Faustino Miranda, el QBP Rodolfo Salinas y los Bióls. Luciano Vela Gálvez, cabe señalar que también se contó con la ayuda desinteresada del Prof. Maximino Martínez y el Ing. Efraím Hernández X. \nLa colección de Herbario Nacional Forestal está formada por colectas que apoyan los trabajos de investigación de los departamentos de Botánica y de Semillas y Plantaciones; de los estudios sobre ecología de las Dioscóreas (J: Chávelas P. y colaboradores); trabajos fitoecológicos de la Sierra Nevada, del Nevado de Toluca, del Nevado de Colima, de Abies religiosa en la región central de México; sobre Pinus patula; de zonas áridas de Baja California, Chihuahua, Durango y San Luis Potosí ; trabajos florísticos en el bosque tropical perennifolio de mayor altitud al nivel del mar en México, localizado en el predio la Joya, Oaxaca; además, por las colectas de fanerógamas, helechos y hongos del Campo Experimental Forestal San Juan Tetla en Puebla; de los árboles y arbustos urbanos de la Ciudad de México; el respaldo del material de la colección de maderas de la Xiloteca Nacional Forestal &#34;Biól. Juana Huerta Crespo&#34; y de varios tesistas asesorados por investigadores del Instituto. La colección también se incrementó gracias a la entrega de duplicados de otros herbarios con los que se mantiene intercambio de material botánico y el donado por colectores extranjeros y nacionales como requerimiento al autorizar los permisos de colecta en la Secretaría de Agricultura y Recursos Hidráulicos durante la vigencia de la Ley Forestal de 1960. La suma de estos esfuerzos han dado como resultado que la colección en la actualidad cuente con 57 000 ejemplares. Gracias al apoyo de CONABIO (1994-96) se tiene capturada y georreferenciada la totalidad de las etiquetas en una base de datos con 50 574 registros, el resto 6 426 registros, son duplicados a los que se les dio un número de registro en el libro.
