Mujer, política y profecía: la autoridad espiritual de María de Toledo (1437-1507)

Resumen: María de Toledo fue una de las primeras representantes del modelo de santidad que cobró una gran importancia en la Castilla de finales de la Edad Media. En este trabajo se muestran los cinco elementos que le otorgaron autoridad espiritual en su época: los paralelismos con la genealogía mística europea a la que perteneció; la caridad con el prójimo; el emparedamiento; la relación con la corte de los Reyes Católicos, la Inquisición y otras autoridades eclesiásticas gracias a sus dones proféticos; y la escritura. A partir de su estudio, se pretende contribuir al conocimiento y a la difusión de las visionarias peninsulares anteriores a Teresa de Jesús, sobre las cuales aún queda mucho por decir.

Abstract: Maria de Toledo was one of the first representatives of the model of sanctity that gained great importance in Castile at the end of the Middle Ages. This article shows the five elements that gave her spiritual authority in her time: the parallels with the European mystical genealogy to which she belonged; charity towards others; the isolated confinement between walls; the relationship with the court of the Catholic Monarchs, the Inquisition and other ecclesiastical authorities thanks to her prophetic gifts; and her writing. The aim of this study is to contribute to the knowledge and dissemination of the peninsular visionaries prior to Teresa of Jesus, about whom there is still much to be said.
