Remarks. The finding of X. hortensiaria in Sakhalin significantly expands its distribution range to the northeast. Ecologically it is associated with dry meadows. In Sakhalin it develops in two generations, the moths fly in late May—June, and in August. The hostplant of the larvae is unknown.

In BOLD, the specimen of “ Xanthorhoe hortensiaria ” from China, Jilin (BIN ID: ACJ3928, sequence ID: GWOTL1007-13; also in GBIF, occurrence 1415542476) in the wing pattern and size corresponds to Xanthorhoe evae Viidalepp & Remm, 1982 (= Xanthorhoe separata Inoue, 2004, it was synonymized by Beljaev 2016: 600), which is distributed in RFE (S Sakhalin, S Khabarovskii Krai, Primorskii Krai) and Japan (Hokkaido). We indicate X. evae for China for the first time. Ecologically, this specoes is closely associated with coniferous forests and prefers mountainan habitats.
