Description
Information and Communication Technologies offer many and important tools for the popularization of archaeological knowledge and the promotion of cultural heritage. In the archaeological site and museum of Eleusis, the digital applications and systems created within the myEleusis project aimed at an alternative "initiation" of the visitor to the ancient mysteries. The process of this "initiation" through the SPEs aimed at different time phases, echoing the various stages of the ancient initiation: before the visit a variety of information is available, with an emphasis on the geographical element to orient the visitor, during the visit a variety of systems is available, so that the user can choose through which way he wishes to tour the Sanctuary and the museum, while after his visit he has the possibility to continue his "initiation" with various digital media, deepened at will. In the context of this announcement, with the myEleusis project coming to an end and after the evaluation of the individual applications by the public, the autonomy of the visitors will be discussed when walking around the archaeological site of Eleusis or when using the applications remotely, but also how and to what extent digital technologies can ultimately contribute to the "initiation" of the modern visitor to an important ancient Sanctuary.
