Description

Poster presented at Royal Society of Chemistry Ultra Large Chemical Libraries Meeting. Abstract: Digital technologies and computational resources are being utilised in scientific research and an increasing rate, however, the vast potential of these resources has yet to be realised. The physical sciences data infrastructure (PSDI) project aims to accelerate research in the physical sciences by providing a data infrastructure that brings together and builds upon the various data systems researchers currently use.

Through PSDI researchers will be able to:

• Find and Access to reference quality data from commercial and open sources

• Combine data from different sources

• Share data, software and models including experimental and simulation data

• Deploy close-to-data computation and containerisation of data and software

• Use AI to explore data

• Learn how to make the results of their research open and FAIR

The first phase of this project was funded through the EPSRC digital research infrastructure and ran until 31st March 2022. In the pilot work has been undertaken in community engagement and requirements gathering to evaluate the potential of PSDI, explore and evaluate technology options and architecture designs for PSDI, and to work on a variety of case studies to scope out how proposed elements of PSDI could influence cutting edge research. This poster will detail the work undertaken so far as part of this project.
