Besides\u00a0mobile broadband services, new service types like machine type\u00a0and ultra-reliable low latency communications foreseen for future\u00a05G systems set new requirements for the chosen waveform\u00a0to support asynchronous access and multiplexing different numerologies.\u00a0That is not best handled by OFDM as it is. Thus,\u00a0various spectral confinement techniques have been proposed in\u00a0the literature, which, however, require specific processing at both\u00a0the transmitter and receiver. This tight link would increase\u00a0signaling overheads to agree on both sides to apply certain\u00a0respective processing. The transparent approach proposed in\u00a0this paper decouples the tight link and thus keeps the system\u00a0simple and robust. We show by means of numerical evaluations\u00a0that OFDM with spectral confinement techniques like windowing\u00a0or filtering at the transmitter, but without respective receiver<br>\nprocessing, outperforms the conventional OFDM.</p>",
