Records in Baltic States: Estonia (Pototski et al. 1993).

Hosts: unidentified host.

European distribution: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom (Cooreman 1950; Rosický 1950; Smit 1962; 1969; Mehl 1967; Suciu 1973; Weidner 1973; George 1974; Beaucournu & Gosalbez 1975; Beaucournu et al. 1975; Beaucournu 1978; Libois 1979; Dudich 1984a; Vashchonok 1996; Brelih & Trilar 2000; Iori et al. 2003; Kutzscher & Weber 2015).

Notes: This parasite is usually found on birds (Smit 1969). The finding of flea of the species D. gallinulae on small mammal host might be accidental (e.g., Dudich 1989; Trolle & Jensen 2001).
