USSR PROPAGANDA IN THE CUBA CRISIS IN THE PRAVDA NEWSPAPER AND THE NEWS ON THE CUBA AND UKRAINE CRISIS IN RUSSIA MASS MEDIA

Description

In October 1962, the entire world community was faced with a major political crisis. The whole world reported that the USSR had placed its nuclear weapons in Cuba, after the US press and Jon Kenndey's appeal to the public via television. But the root of this problem goes back to 1959. With the placement of Jupiter ballistic missiles in Italy and then in Turkey by the USA, and the USSR keeping news of this, the USSR sends its nuclear-tipped missiles to Cuba, and discussions begin in the White House, which keeps news of this. The majority of the research will be based on examples of propaganda made in the newspaper Pravda between 16 October and 29 October 1962. It will be investigated what kind of propaganda methods Pravda newspaper mostly used during these dates and how the propaganda behaved as the crisis deepened. Russia's mass media constantly emphasize that there is a strong connection between these problems. At the same time, the approach to this crisis in Russian mass media, which has a very important effect today, will be investigated, especially in the documentary of the Cuban 'Motherdir' operation of the Russian State Television. The news published in the mass media, which makes a comparison between the Ukraine Crisis and the Cuban Crisis, will be examined. With the onset of the crisis between Ukraine and Russia on February 24, 2022, the Cuban Crisis came to mind again. The Russian state has given the right to start this war by comparing its special operation with Ukraine with the Cuban Crisis. Even though the Cuban crisis corresponded to 1962, the war between Russia and Ukraine brought this issue back to our agenda. The relations between the events that took place in 1962 and the present have increased even more. In fact, the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and other Russian state officials raise this issue. Making an analogy with the Cuban Crisis during the Ukraine Crisis reveals that this issue should be re-examined by going back to 1962.
