Tool for the Calculation of Paris-compatible National Emission Paths with the Regensburg Model

Description

Basic idea behind the Regensburg Model (RM)

  1. Global paths:
Global emission paths are determined that are compatible with a global CO2 budget to be specified. For this purpose, the tool provides the Regensburg Model Scenario Types RM 1 - 6 (see Technical note).
  2. National paths:
National emission paths are derived from this global paths with the Regensburg Formula, which leads to the convergence of per capita emissions.

Central features of the Regensburg Formula:

  • monotonic paths in the convergence period
    • countries that start with per capita emissions below the convergence level will never exceed this convergence level
    • countries that start above the convergence level with per capita emissions must reduce their emissions from the outset
  • results represent a kind of “moral lower limit” for industrialized countries if the convergence level is chosen relatively low

Here is a preview of the tool. The macros in the Excel tool are signed with a certificate from Sectigo.
