TYPE LOCALITY: USA, "stranded in the outer bank of Bird Island Shoal in the harbor of Beaufort, North Carolina ".
DISTRIBUTION: North Atlantic, South Atlantic coast of South Africa, Australia: temperate waters.
STATUS: CITES - Appendix II.
